FAQ

Q. Is there a minimum age?
A. A licence cannot be issued before your 17th birthday. You have to be 16 or over for your first solo. Any instruction before the age of 14 cannot be counted towards a licence.

Q. What is the difference between the PPL and the NPPL?
A. Apart from the different medical requirements, the NPPL curriculum has a lower hours requirement than the PPL. The NPPL is restricted to flying in the UK and day only. The PPL can be extended with various qualifications and ratings, eq night qualification or IMC rating

Q. Can I use a NPPL abroad?
A. Current legislation restricts the NPPL to UK airspace.

Our philosophy

Q. How many instructors do you employ?
A. Leading Edge have an extremely professional and loyal team of instructors. We do not 'employ' any instructors but rely on a recipricol trust - this has resulted in a team over 14 instructors including the original 2 when we started at Cumbernauld Airport.

Q. What aircraft do you use?
A. While Leading Edge are aware and have an understanding of the 'new breed' of light aircraft on the market (e.g. Diamond Katana, Tecnam, etc), we are committed to using the best types of aircraft available for TRAINING. Our standard training aircraft is the Cessna 152, the worlds most popular and common 2 seat aircraft. This aircraft has ALL the neccessary controls to give a FULL training - mixture, fuel selector, vacuum, etc.

Q. What training packages do you offer?
A. At Leading Edge we do not offer any pay up-front packages, instead we encourage students to pay as they fly. If you have the money to pay for a chunk of training, then put it into an interest bearing account with easy access and pay as you go.
